Who’s the Number One Special Interest Groupie?

Today POTUS blasted SCOTUS’ ruling on campaign finance reform:

“With its ruling today, the Supreme Court has given a green light to a new stampede of special interest money in our politics,” Obama said in a statement. “It is a major victory for big oil, Wall Street banks, health insurance companies and the other powerful interests that marshal their power every day in Washington to drown out the voices of everyday Americans. This ruling gives the special interests and their lobbyists even more power in Washington–while undermining the influence of average Americans who make small contributions to support their preferred candidates. That’s why I am instructing my administration to get to work immediately with Congress on this issue. We are going to talk with bipartisan Congressional leaders to develop a forceful response to this decision. The public interest requires nothing less.”

Now, you can't exactly compare, because Obama took in much more money because McCain chose the federal assisted path, but if you break it down by industry it's not much different between the two. McCain took in more from Finance/Insur/RealEst while Obama took in more from Lawyers/Lobbyists. No surprise on either account.

So, I guess my point it, take this info with a grain of salt. Both sides receive the same amount of support from special interests. It appears to me, however, that one side is wanting to change the way things are being done. Who will this help? Will if you look at the split in the court it's exactly along conservative/liberal lines. And if you look at reactions, it's again along conservative/liberal lines. So, of course, your going to see more rhetoric from the right. My opinion? Don't really have one, however, I think it's going to become rather annoying near election time with all the new ads. It's going to take alot more research to figure out the truth.
